The trail leaves Sulzenauhütte in an easterly direction over the Sulzauer river via the footbridge. There follows a 50m ascent into the basin of the Freiger glacier (Seitenmoränen, Stirnmoränen). Further over the Grünau stream to the side moraine up to Grünausee. From here, the sign points us in a south-easterly direction over light terrain until the former Grünau glacier. Until around the middle of summer, this section of the trail involves a reasonably steep snowfield; later in the summer we must hike through loose rocks up to the Seescharte. From here we continue up the marked Freigerweg until the next big snowfield (Grübel glacier) and then turn right over gravel and block work up to the summit of Gamsspitzl.
